Interactive Power Point Project

Element Team students will be creating a Power Point mini-study of the great majestic Nile River. The river has been divided into the Upper and Lower Nile. Classes will focus on exploring related topics of interest in the following manner:

·        Periods A & C - Upper Nile from its source north to the southern border of modern Egypt.

·        Periods D & E – Lower Nile from the southern border of Egypt to the river’s mouth at the Nile Delta.

 

Essential Question: How and Why did the Nile River play a major role in the development of civilization in Ancient Egypt? How do archaeologists, geographers and historians know?

 

Instructions – Part A (= 2 Quiz Grades)

 

Working with a partner you will research books, websites etc. that help to answer our essential question, by developing a topical question to focus your research. Examples:

·        How did the Nile’s annual floods lead to the development of Egyptian agriculture?

·        Why was the Nile important in Egyptian religion and beliefs?

·        How did the Pharaohs use the Nile to unite Upper and Lower Egypt?

 

You and your partner will create (4) four Power Point slides that are to include:

1.    Title slide with visual, title of topic, and your names

2.    Create an Essential question for your chosen topic

3.    Create list of key points/characteristics for further investigation.

4.    Create an annotated bibliography of a minimum of (5) sources, with at least (2) of them being books.

 

Instructions – Part B (= 1 Test Grade)

You will each write a 200-word Quote Sandwich. You and your partner will gather information, analyze its importance, and cite evidence to support a focus statement and conclusion.

·        Use at least (3) three pieces of quoted evidence to support your Topic Focus Statement.

 

Instructions – Part C  ( = 1 Quiz Grade)

You and your partner will present your slides to the class in a brief 4 -minute Oral Presentation.

 

Part D (= 1 Quiz Grade)

Homework Assignment – Use a secret website to create a 6” cardboard cartouche of your name. More information later!

 

Instructions – Part E (= 1 Test Grade) Group

Your group will use the Power Point tour of the Nile and Ancient Egypt to answer (6) selected questions; one for each of the six cataracts on the Nile River. Each time you get the correct answer, your group will get one (1) limestone block to build the Great Pyramid of Pharaoh B. The first group in each class to acquire all six blocks and complete the Great Pyramid wins (and might get to bury the Great B!)
