Assignment to hand in: Photo Gallery Questions (below) & Map of World Muslim Population
Step 1: Photo Gallery & Questions: Look at the photo gallery of Muslim people aroung the world by clicking on the picture below. Then answer the questions below on a separate piece of paper.

1. In what way are the Muslims you see in the photo gallery different?
2. What do you think accounts for these differences?
Step 2: Create Map: Print out and tape together the handout - Map of World Muslim Population.
Step 3: World Muslim Population Demographics: Print out the handout - Muslim Population Figures in the World.
Step 4: Calculating Percentages for the Map: Use the population figures to fill in the map. Directions and example below:
Numerator (top of the fraction) = Muslim population.
Denominator (bottom of fraction) = Total population.
Percentage of Population = Divide the numerator by the denominator.
Example: If the Muslim population equaled 100,000 and the total population of the region was 1,000,000, the Muslim population would make up 10% of the population [100,000 divided by 1,000,000 equals .10 or 10%]

Step 5: Creating a Map Key: Use different colors to fill in the map key on the bottom left of your map.
